6 Mistakes for New Travellers to Avoid

When you travel without being well prepared, you risk running into trouble or taking on costly additional expenses. A little bit of research ahead of time can help a trip go by without mishaps that could have been prevented.

1. Try to Schedule Extra Time Between Flights

If you need to take more than one flight to get to your destination, make sure you plan for some time between flights. This way if you fall behind schedule or the first flight is delayed, you are less likely to miss the second one.

2. Roaming Fees

Putting your phone on Airplane Mode before your flight and leaving it that way until you return is a good way to avoid roaming charges. You can also ask your cellphone provider about travel packages if you must use your phone.

3. Overpacking

Overpacking can make it hard to find things and carry your luggage around. You can also be charged extra for going over weight limits on a plane. To avoid this, create a checklist of the essential things you need and leave the rest at home.

4. Inform Your Credit Card Company of Your Travels

When you use a credit card outside the country without first warning your credit card company, they will likely suspend your account thinking that it was stolen. Give them a heads-up to avoid having to fix this problem while you are away.

5. Take Out Local Currency

If you haven't already, you should take out some local currency at the airport when you arrive at your destination. You will need it to take public transportation and to use at markets where they don't accept payment cards.

6. Keep Your Valuables Safe

One of the ways to keep your valuables safe when travelling is to leave them at home or purchase luggage with a locked compartment. To be safe, if you need to take them with you, at least purchase insurance before you leave because airline coverage will not cover very expensive items.
