Are you a fungi lover?
September is Mushroom Month. We've got lots of edible fungi in our own Calgary backyard, the larger Alberta region and other sections of Canada.
What better way to celebrate than foraging for and enjoying those delicious edibles. WARNING: Those who have never foraged for mushrooms should be aware that this 'hunt' can seriously captivate your interest and quickly level-up your excitement.
Let's look at some of your fungi celebration options:
1. Alberta Mycological Society
The Society organizes foraging events in the Edmonton area. Check out their calendar to find out when and where. While closer to home, their choice of events is not as extensive as those of the…
2. Mycological Society of Toronto
This calendar shows a wide variety of events throughout September and October.
Park and Jet Calgary's reliable and secure 'trunk to trunk' service makes hopping over to Toronto even easier and more comfortable:
- Drive to the Calgary Airport.
- Park your car in our fully fenced, well-lit parking facility, staffed 24/7.
- Board our free, 'to/from the airport' shuttle.
- Upon your return, do the reverse.
3. Fungi for the People
Foraging for mushrooms is all well and good, but at some point, the season ends…or does it?
Director of Fungi for the People, Ja Schindler believes that cultivating mushrooms is an act of social and environmental activism. (And such tasty activism, too.)
Schindler has been cultivating, researching and producing mushrooms for over 15 years. Since 2011, more than 3000 people have participated in his hands-on, mushroom workshops which take place in Oregon, USA. Check out his website for information on upcoming Mushroom Cultivation Design courses, which include a French interpreter as needed.
And, of course, no need to worry about the car you parked at the airport to catch your flight. Just like the over 1 million customers before you, your car is safe and sound in Park and Jet Calgary's secure facility.
